FAQ — Fire Line Backflow Testing
Why does a fire line need a backflow preventer?
Fire suppression systems hold water that can sit stagnant and may contain additives like glycol or rust inhibitors. A backflow preventer stops this water from being pushed back into the public drinking water supply when pressure changes on the main line.
How often does a fire line backflow assembly need to be tested?
Annual testing is required by most Texas municipalities and is commonly required for commercial property insurance as well. We test, document, and file the results with your water authority to keep you fully compliant.
Do you coordinate with our fire alarm contractor?
Yes. Testing the fire line backflow preventer is separate from testing the fire suppression system itself. We focus on the backflow assembly and can coordinate with your other contractors to minimize disruption to your operations.
What type of backflow preventer is typically on a fire line?
Fire service lines most commonly use a Double Check Detector Assembly (DCDA) or a Reduced Pressure Detector Assembly (RPDA), depending on the hazard classification of the property. We test both types.
