Common Questions

FAQ — RPZ Testing

What is an RPZ backflow assembly?

A Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) assembly is a type of backflow preventer with two internally loaded check valves and a differential relief valve. It is required where there is a high hazard cross-connection risk, such as irrigation systems with chemical injectors, commercial properties, or fire suppression service lines.

How long does an RPZ test take?

Most RPZ tests take 15 to 30 minutes. The time includes attaching our test kit to the assembly, running through the test procedure, recording results, and writing up the report. If a repair is needed, that may add time.

What happens if my RPZ fails the test?

If your RPZ fails, we diagnose the issue on the spot. In many cases we can rebuild or repair the assembly immediately using parts we carry, then re-test it to confirm it passes before we leave.

What brands of RPZ assemblies do you service?

We service all major RPZ brands including Watts, Febco, Wilkins, Ames, and Apollo. We carry rebuild kits for common models so most repairs can be done on the same visit.
